Mara and I went to this little tea/coffee house we found last time we were in the same area which is absolutely amazing. It's an actual house with gardens and everything, and when inside, you feel like you are hanging out in one of those picture-perfect IKEA showroom sets with all the sleek modern furniture. There are paintings and sculptures and art books all over the place. A cat walked by - a rare sight here. I had a mini teapot of rosemary tea. Quite nice.
Afterward we set off for what our travel books call "the largest spa in Asia." But what we found when we got there is that they call themselves "the best spa in the world." Even better! This place was awesome. We stripped down with all the other ladies and immersed ourselves in hot pools, freeeezing pools, warm pools, mudwater pools, jasmine pools, and grape, apple, and blueberry pools (advertised as a spring special...hmmm). They had all kinds of saunas and even TVs in the saunas. One of them was showing car wrecks caught on camera. Not as relaxing as it sounds. There were waterfall-style streams of water that you can sit under to massage your back. All of it was pretty fantastic and LARGE, as promised.
We left that place and searched high and low for the famous pajeon (savory vegetable pancake) said to be in the area. After walking and asking people and walking some more, we hadn't gotten any closer to a restaurant that served it, so we hailed a taxi and asked the driver to take us to one. (Speaking of cabs, they have women drivers here!) Usually this type of food is served at some kind of cheap drinking establishment, but he dropped us off at a swanky little pajeon place. Really nice food. The highlight was when we got up to leave, and the waitress ran over and practically pushed us back into our chairs, shouting "dessert!" It was included in our meal. As she tried to explain what it was (thick orange liquid in a mini bowl), I took my spoon and tried a little taste. She thought that was hilarious. Evidently, you are supposed to pick it up and drink it. hehe oops. We're still not sure what it was, but it was tasty.
